Week 4 27-31 May

Kia Ora families of Room 1

On Monday the children are taking home their alphabet and fast word card.  This card is their " Homework" that you are kindly asked to do with them as often as possible until your child is confident with their alphabet letters and the sounds that they make. The 'fast words' are the most common words found in reading and used in writing. Regular practice is the key to success. The card has ideas for you to help to make this learning fun.

This week we are focusing on the letters j, b, p.  We will be reviewing last weeks letters as well, t, k, f.

Next weekend is Queen's Birthday so on Friday we will be having some fun celebrating the Royal Family.  Some of the activities planned include dress ups, making jeweled crowns, making cards, designing queen outfits and eating a birthday cake fit for a queen.  We have some dress ups but if anyone has some outfits that would be suitable please send along to school.

You can look forward to seeing some photos from Room 1's Queens Birthday celebration.

RAINBOW FUN

We have our rainbow paintings displayed in the office for everyone to see.  We have been singing a song about the colours of the rainbow and painted a rainbow with the rain and sun.
It was exciting to see a real rainbow in the sky and there was a little bit of rain and a little bit of sun when the rainbow came out - just like the words of the song!

Mrs Watson loves looking at our colourful rainbows while she is working in the office.

An awesome Antarctic Centre visit

On Tuesday we had a fantastic time at the Antarctic Centre learning lots of things about Antarctica, experiencing the cold weather in the ice and snow room and seeing the penguins.

The highlight was the exciting ride on the Hagglund vehicle.  Wow you should have heard the shrieks, screams and sheer delight mixed with terror and excitement on their faces.

Here are some of the photos but please come into Room 1 to see more.
