Autumn Fun in Room 1

Autumn is lots of fun for a walk around the school and around the neighbourhood too. We collected leaves, seeds and took lots of photos too.
Looking up into the tree to see the branches, leaves and sunlight.

The beautiful deciduous trees in our neighbourhood.

2015 Room 1 Blog

Kia Ora and welcome to Room 1's blog page for 2015.  We are excited to share our class with you and would love you to leave a comment if you want.

Look at our caterpillars.

They are monarch caterpillars and they are eating all the swan plant leaves.
They are getting BIG and FAT.

The caterpillar is getting ready to go into the chrysalis.
The chrysalis is hanging on the leaf.

WOW this morning the chrysalis hatched and we have a beautiful monarch butterfly.

We love our caterpillars and butterflies in our classroom.  Come and visit our room to see what is changing each day.

The Day the fire truck came to school.

The fireman is squirting water everywhere.  It went to the top of the big tree in the playground.

The fireman told us to what to do when there is a fire inside.  We practised crawling low to the ground.

Drop down,

Crawl,

and get out fast.

Wait at the mailbox for the firetruck and the firemen to put out the fire.

Have you checked your smoke alarms are working at home?  They save lives.

Welcome to Term 4

Glitter Text Generator

It is great to be back at school this term and a special welcome to our two new boys, Iraiah and L-J.  Mrs Mauchline will still be in Room 1 every Thursday.

We have lots of learning activities planned for this term to help the children with their reading, writing and maths.  Knowing the names of the alphabet letters, the sounds they make and how to write the letters is very important.  Use the word card in the Reading Folder to practise at home.
From Monday - Thursday children will take home a reading book to share with you. On Friday they will read the poem in the Poetry Book.

Please write each night in the Home Reading Book as the children love to get their 25, 50 & 75 nights of reading stickers. Thank you!!

This week we will be planting some bean seeds so we can watch them grow.
Maybe Jack will climb our beanstalks!
We will be asking questions, making predictions and using our observation skills.

We also had a great time being creative and showing others what we've learnt during Developmental Time...

Last week we got together with some of the senior children and learnt about
Term 3's Waltham School Value of being
Pleasant and Polite

We made a poster together, talking about what being Pleasant and Polite looks like, sounds like and feels like. We also acted out various examples. Check out our learning!

Remembering our manners while lining up.

Learning to say "Excuse Me Please"

Learning to "Take Turns."

When we take turns we are "Sharing and Caring."

Learning when to say "Pardon"

Come and check out our poster in Room 1 to see what else we are leanring about being pleasant and polite.
Also see our 'Reaching for the Stars' responsibility rocket!

Junior Team Shared Lunch

On Tuesday Room 1 and Room 4 had their shared lunch to celebrate the end of the Inquiry unit
All Cultures Shine.

Look at the yummy food we had to eat.  Many thanks to all the families who provided food from their culture or another country. The teachers were amazed by how much the children could eat and that they were willing to try new foods.  Well done to the children.

Glitter Text Generator

One very clever caterpillar has been listening to our phonics this week!  On Tuesday we were learning the letter u, umbrella, under, up, underwear.

We have been watching the caterpillar crawl up the wall and on Friday morning we looked on the alphabet chart to see the chrysalis under the umbrella.
Jacqs took this photo of the chrysalis on Friday.
